Generally bathtubs are made up of porcelain. If you are using older fixtures then it is possible that they are not acid and alkaline resistant. Porcelain coated steel tubs are highly durable as compared to the fiberglass or acrylic tubs. If you are using fiberglass bathtub then you need to very careful so as to avoid scratching the surface.
Here are some tips which would be helpful for you in your bathtub cleaning task:
- You can clean porcelain tubs easily with the help of liquid cleanser or nonabrasive powder. Take some powder or cleanser on a damp sponge and apply it on the surface of the porcelain tub and rinse it well with water afterwards. You can use synthetic scouring pad for obstinate soil.
- Remove all the hairs from the drain trap to avoid water clogging.
- For cleaning fiberglass bathtubs use nonabrasive liquid cleanser or fiberglass cleaning product available in the market. With the help of damp sponge apply the cleanser on the surface, and then rinse it off with clear water.
- To remove rust stains you can use rust removers available in the market. Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves before using these products as they are generally acidic in nature.
- To clean your stained fixtures make a paste of tartar cream and hydrogen peroxide or a paste of borax and lemon juice. Now with the help of brush gently scrub the paste on the stained area and rinse it with water afterwards.
- The ring around the tub can be easily cleaned with the help of a nylon net ball. In case of stubborn tub ring make a paste of tartar cream and hydrogen peroxide and cover the ring. Wipe it off when the paste dries.
- Rub a solution of turpentine and salt to remove discoloration from your yellowed tub. Rinse it well with clear water afterwards. Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves before using this solution.
