Although most soaps available in the market have almost the same basic ingredients, the way these are combined are modified give rise to a mind boggling variety. But which one to choose and which will agree with your skin is a matter that requires careful thought.
Some soaps help to moisturize dry skin, others aid in controlling oily skin, and still others are designed to make bath time more pleasurable and soothing. All soaps contain two basic ingredients – alkali and fat. Fat is classified into animal fat and vegetable fat. Animal fat, also called tallow is the ingredient which makes a hard soap. Vegetable soaps are in general, better to use, since they contain natural oils like palm oil, olive oil, coconut oil or other vegetable sources. Soaps made from these fats, rather than tallow, tend to be creamy and give a good lather.
If your skin type is dry, go for soaps which contain moisturizing agents or milk. This is a sensible choice since milk calms your skin down and makes a nice, luxurious soap. Another good choice for those who have dry skin is oatmeal soap.
Almond soaps are great for exfoliating and won’t clog your pores. Meanwhile, it is better to look out for alcohol in soaps. While fragrance does not matter much, alcohol can dry out your skin. So it is better to avoid soaps with any alcohol in them. Those very few who are blessed with normal, non-sensitive skin can select between a wide range and zero in on a foaming, sweet smelling bar to bathe with!
